Staff Associate Position - Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a Staff Associate to join a team of scientists, data managers, and IT developers to contribute to the development and maintenance of digital scientific data and information systems operated by the Lamont Geoinformatics group. Primary responsibilities of this position will be the compilation and management of lunar sample data as part of a NASA-funded project. Primary tasks include digitization, formatting, quality control, and database ingestion of geochemical and petrological data and metadata from the scientific literature and from datasets submitted by investigators, DOI registration of datasets, and support for investigators during data compilation. Contribute to improving and documenting data management workflows. Contribute to educational and outreach activities. Assist with communication of progress to the science community.

Candidates should have a Bachelor Degree in Geological Sciences or Chemistry or closely related Science and 4 years of related experience in laboratory work in analytical chemistry, geochemistry and/or geology, or a Master’s Degree in Geological Sciences or Chemistry or closely related Science with 2 years of experience in laboratory work in analytical chemistry, geochemistry and/or geology required.  Excellent organizational and communication skills. Technical experience with scientific databases, metadata standards and/or analytical geochemistry is preferred.
